A prominent winery in Jumilla – which spreads over the region of Murcia to the South East of Spain - Viña Elena is very much a family business with Elena Pacheco at the helm supported by her mother, sisters and children. Specifically, the winery sits directly inland from the Costa Blanca and the holiday destination of Benidorm.
Monastrell is the predominant variety in the Viña Elena portfolio and flourishes in nutrient-poor, limestone soils. Vines are trained using the traditional Spanish method of 'en vaso' – aka the goblet training style. All the plots were planted at a low density of around 1,400 to 1,600 vines per hectare.
The age of the vines ranges between 15 to 40 years old. Altitude range of plots is between 380 and 760 metres above sea level. No irrigation of the vines is carried out.
Fruit is hand-harvested, picking the best fruit over a combination of different plots located in different sub-zones. Fermented in stainless steel tank, with maceration of 7/8 days at a temperature-controlled to 22ºC.
Ruby-coloured in the glass. Aromas of red fresh fruit - raspberry, red cherry, strawberry with a hint of rose petal. On the palate it is vibrant and refreshing. Overall medium-bodied, well-balanced with an elegant finish. Suitable for vegetarian and vegan wine drinkers.
