Comando G is the winemaking venture of Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia, with a focus upon old vine Grenache (Garnacha) from the rugged Gredos mountains to the West of Madrid.
It's important to say from the outset that these wines are not in the mould of sometimes overly ripe, extracted Grenache with high alcohol levels. Comando G approach their winemaking in a way which exhibits elegance, refinement and a lightness of touch.
El Tamboril is one of their 'Grand Cru' wines from the valley of Alto Alberche from a plot around the village of Navaltalgordo. The vines are in places 70+ years old and the high elevation of the vineyard means harvesting can take place as late as October.
They observe organic and biodynamic farming. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo a gentle 65 day, whole cluster maceration in an oak vat before spending 14 months aging in 10HL french oak cask.
The project success is in elevating the sometimes very ordinary Grenache varietal into something very special - almost Burgundian Pinot Noir in it's overall presentation. One of the most exciting new-school wine producers in Spain right now.

Quick note on Fine Wine purchasing.
When ordering that special bottle of wine it is worth doing a little research before making a purchase. Wine is a living product, which goes through changes and stages of development in the bottle, as well as varying between vintages. If you are considering ordering an older vintage we recommend speaking to a member of staff or using a review site like cellartracker.com to try and get as full a picture as possible of the flavour profile and development of the bottle you are considering.
