Chateau Barrejat, Madiran, 2020

The Château Barréjat vineyard covers 40 hectares in the Madiran municipality of Maumusson.

Old vines of 80 years on average.

The emphasis has been on the health of the vineyard since the 1960s with cover crop and only materials of natural origin used to improve the soils. Much work is carried out to green harvest and keep yields low. Fruit harvesting is by hand to ensure quality selection of grapes.

This wine is a blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon located on sandy silt soils with black gravel. Wines range from 80 up to 200 years.

A traditional long vatting from 21 to 25 days and malolactic fermentation is followed by raising the cuvee in new oak barrels.

Opaque purple colour in the glass, nose of red fruits and undergrowth supported by vanilla and toast. Powerful, fleshy and robust mouth with a woody note on the finish. Almost new world in it's extracted fruit forward stylings.

Pair with barbecue, steak, beef stew.
