Although a relatively new producer in the Douro the Alves de Sousa family have a rich tradition of winemaking going back five generations. Having abandoned his plans to become a civil engineer, Domingos followed in his family’s footsteps to become a winemaker. The move paid off as Domingos has become the only producer in history to twice receive the Portuguese ”Winemaker of the Year“ The winery was founded in 1992 and farms exclusively from Estate owned vineyards or “Quintas”.
Predominantly a blend of Malvasia Fiona, Viosinho and Gouveio the wine shows a fine balance between a nutty richness on the palate while retaining enough acidity to offer sufficient freshness. Copper in colour with flavours of caramel, marmalade and citrus, this port can be enjoyed as a classic after dinner digestive or over ice as an aperitif.
