Although a relatively new producer in the Douro the Alves de Sousa family have a rich tradition of winemaking going back five generations. Having abandoned his plans to become a civil engineer, Domingos followed in his family’s footsteps to become a winemaker. The move paid off as Domingos has become the only producer in history to twice receive the Portuguese ”Winemaker of the Year“ The winery was founded in 1992 and farms exclusively from Estate owned vineyards or “Quintas”.
A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cao and Tinta Roriz, this LBV is a classic example of its region. Having undergone the minimum 4-6 years ageing required by law this wine shares many characteristics of Vintage Port. Full-bodied in style, exuding flavours of baked black fruits and chocolate with a well-integrated tannin structure.
