Yvon Clerget Volnay 1er Cru "Clos du Verseuil" 2017

One of the oldest families in the village, making wines there since the 12th century in sites within Volnay and Pommard. Thibaud Clerget is the current overseer of the domaine, having taken over in 2015 following oenological study in Beaune.

Lutte raisonnée is the style of farming on the domaine, with careful vine management to produce small berries for maximum concentration. Long macerations, gentle handling of fruit, delicate use of oak to avoid masking terroir character.

Clos du Verseuil is a monopole of 0.68 hectares, purchased by the family in 1936. 40 year old vines with Eastern exposure on clay, with heavier limestone and rock.

Note that between father Yvon retiring in 2009 until Thibaud took the reins of the domaine in 2005 – a six year period - the grapes of Clos du Verseuil were sold to Henri Boillot who bottled it as a Volnay village level wine.

The 2017 vintage has a complex nose of blue and dark fruits, spice. On the palette a core of vibrant red fruits, underlaid with a seam of minerality and hint of salinity. Supple, juicy with lots of depth. Aged in barrel (30% new).
