This wine uses Melon Blanc (or Melon de Bourgogne), a cross between Pinot Blanc and Gouais Blanc. It is used almost exclusively to produce dry white wine from Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, the best known of the Muscadet appellations of the Loire Valley's Pays Nantais district. Make no mistake: this is not to be confused with the sweeter, notoriously aromatic Muscat variety – it is crisp and dry, pairing wonderfully with salmon, oysters, scallops and shrimp.
