Comando G is the winemaking venture of Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia, with a focus upon old vine Grenache (Garnacha) from the rugged Gredos mountains to the West of Madrid.

It's important to say from the outset that these wines are not in the mould of sometimes overly ripe, extracted Grenache with high alcohol levels. Comando G (the G stands for Grenache) approach their winemaking in a way which exhibits elegance, refinement and a lightness of touch.

Las Umbrias is their 'Grand Cru' wine from the area where the majority of their wine making is based - around the village of Rozas de Puerto Real. The vines are 65+ years old and the vineyard is 1000m above sea level, a feature which no doubt aids the elegance of this wine.

Las Umbrias is maybe the most floral and delicate of their wines, with fine tannins and stony acidity.

They observe organic and biodynamic farming. The grapes are hand harvested the wine undergoes a long, gentle maceration with natural yeast fermentation and then over a year in large oak foundre.

The project success is in elevating the sometimes very ordinary Grenache varietal into something very special - almost Burgundian Pinot Noir in it's overall presentation. One of the most exciting new-school wine producers in Spain right now.
