Château de Monthelie has been overseen by the Suremain family since 1903. They have farmed organically and biodynamically since 1996 over their 11Ha estate.
The village of Monthelie is best known for its red wines a little firmer in structure than Volnay and of particular interest in perfect summers when the grapes can ripen fully. Situated between more famous – and more costly neighbours - Volnay and Mersault.
The wine is concentrated, intense with velvety and complex layers of blackberry, cherry and cassis. A hint of forest floor and undergrowth. Very enjoyable, perfumed and elegant.
Pair with red meat, beef bourguignon, rabbit.
