Mas Martinet Viticultors were one of the first wineries established a part of the Priorat renaissance in the 1980's. Owned by José Luis Perez, and with his daughter Sara Perez now as winemaker, this pristine estate bottles only 3,000 cases annually from their low yielding 10 hectares of vineyards. They gained organic certification in 2009. There is careful attention to detail in all aspects of vinification and viticuture, with decisions based on terroir and vintage variation.
Clos Martinet is a single vineyard wine made from Grenache, Carignan and a small percentage of Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvingon varieties. It is their flagship wine, and one of the great Priorat wines.
The nose is complex and inviting - ripe cherry, violet, lillac and exotic spices. The palette is concentrated with notes of cherry kirsch, black pepper, lavendar, smoked meat, leather. Smooth tannins and a smoky note of minerality linger on the long finish. A fine example of the Priorat style.
