There are 74 hectares under vine at La Tour de By, a Cru Bourgeois estate in the north of the Medoc.
A long history here with vineyards recorded as far back as the 1700s.
The Pages family are the sole current owners as of 1990, having bought out two other parties with interests in the chateau. Frédéric Le Clerc and Benjamin Richer de Forges are now at the helm following the passing of grandfather, Marc.
Gravel based soils planted with a combination of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot on gravel soils. Average vine age is 40 years, with some very old vines of more than 100 years of age in that mix.
Fermentation is carried out in traditional wooden vats in a temperature-controlled chai, with a four-week cuvaison. The wine is then aged for 16 months in barriques.
Intense garnet colour in the glass. An inviting nose of black fruit and toasted oak. On the palette deep blackcurrant and plum, with robust but well integrating tannins.
Ready to drink.
