Fifth generation winemaking at this Cote de Nuits domaine with Etienne being handed the reins in the early 1980s by father, Jean. 15Ha of vines over 22 appellations including famous names such as Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot. There has of course been a focus on improvements from Etienne since he took over – a long hang time in the vineyard, lower yields, minimal punch-downs, gentle fermentations, ploughing by horse where possible.
Another fine example of Village level wine here, from Grivot. A blend of three vineyard plots, vinified separately, each contributing to the finished cuvee.
The nose displays earth and mineral notes framed by redcurrant and raspberry fruit. The palette adds savoury and woodsmoke elements, with quite dense tannins and slightly rustic character developing. A layered and intriguing bottle.
