Established in 2006 by Thomas Teibert and Doris & Joachim Christ, this domain is located on the hillside of Calce overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. 17 ha old vines (average age 70 years) featuring indigenous varieties such as Carignan, Grenache Noir, Macabeu & Grenache Gris. There is a close association to the domaine with local legend Gerard Gauby who planted the Syrah vines himself and which are the oldest in the area.Certified biodynamic since 2009. These are 'garage' wines made in ultra-low numbers and well worth considering.
This Esprit de l'Horizon Cuvee is comprised of 100% Syrah grown on limestone and schist soils.
Fermentation is spontaneous with occasional punchdowns by foot. Wines are raised in a combination of oak foudres and demi-muids, concrete and stainless steel. Bottled unfiltered, unfined. Low sulphite levels used only.
Intense black cherry and plum on the nose with mineral depth and savoury herbal accents.
Round, full palette of black fruits with scorched earth and garrigue. Cracked peppercorn and a hint of smoke on a fresh finish.
