Bouchard Pere & Fils Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot, Volnay Premier Cru 2014
Established in 1731 and family run up until 1995 when the company was sold to Champagne house, Henriot. This change of hands heralded a review of the entire Bouchard portfolio, with a keen eye trained upon quality and how to raise standards and the building of an impressive new winemaking facility in 2005. Steps included declassification of a number of Grand Cru stocks which were felt not to be good enough. And so this domaine, after enduring a declining reputation in the pre-sale 1990's, has now seen its reputation restored by Henriot and moves forwards with confidence.
Vineyard holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, making it the largest domaine in the Cote d'Or.
The 2014 vintage for red Burgundy began with a mild winter, and was followed by an unusually cool summer with fruit hanging into September to achieve ripeness. Many excellent wines produced, but a far from easy vintage for producers. Wines are generally lighter.
This was the the first vineyard bought by Bouchard in 1775, and still bears the family name of the original owners – Carnot. Highly regarded plot known for elegance and finesse.
3.76 hectares in production with an South East exposition. Soils composed of thin layers of limestone and clay on a cracked rocky table-land.
Fruit is manually harvested. Following total or partial destemming, fermentation is carried out in small containers, with gentle pressing to ensure optimal vinification. Vatting lasted between 15 to 18 days.
12 - 14 months in French oak, with 25 to 35% new oak.
VOLNAY LES CAILLERETS 2014 has exquisite fruit and spice aromas on the nose. On the palate, a perfect harmony between structure and elegance: rich, complex and voluptuous.

Quick note on Fine Wine purchasing.
When ordering that special bottle of wine it is worth doing a little research before making a purchase. Wine is a living product, which goes through changes and stages of development in the bottle, as well as varying between vintages. If you are considering ordering an older vintage we recommend speaking to a member of staff or using a review site like cellartracker.com to try and get as full a picture as possible of the flavour profile and development of the bottle you are considering.
