A fine example of classical Rioja, using the best fruit available and only produced in the best vintages.
There is a good deal of history associated with this Bodega. Wines have been made at Remelluri since at least the 14th Century when monks founded the site. Fast forward to current times and here with this 2010 vintage we have the first bottling with full organic certification. But this is not a departure from tradition, and the central focus is upon reviving the historic viticultural traditions of Rioja – to celebrate the terroir and unique character of the various growing plots.
A traditional blend of Tempranillo (75%), with Garnacha and Graciano – this is supplemented with small percentages of the white grapes Moscatel, Viura and Malvasía.
Fermentation is with native yeasts, each plot is vinified separately, new oak is scarcely employed, and the wines are only very lightly filtered and fined in order to maintain character.
The wine spends 26 months in French oak barrels, plus years of bottle ageing – held a minimum of 6 years prior to release.
On the nose aromas of dark plums and cherries, anis, cigar box and vanilla. The palette reveal a full bodied weight, concentrated fruit, but elegant with firm tannic structure. The finish is long and complex.
This is a wine which which approachable now, yet has considerable ageing potential.

Quick note on Fine Wine purchasing.
When ordering that special bottle of wine it is worth doing a little research before making a purchase. Wine is a living product, which goes through changes and stages of development in the bottle, as well as varying between vintages. If you are considering ordering an older vintage we recommend speaking to a member of staff or using a review site like cellartracker.com to try and get as full a picture as possible of the flavour profile and development of the bottle you are considering.
